Summary |
This week we celebrate Shavuot, one of the Shalosh Regalim — the three pilgrimage festivals. As Pesach (Passover) is the most popular of all Jewish holidays, and Sukkot has become increasingly popular recently, Shavuot is arguably the forgotten of these three Torah chagim/holidays.
Yet Shavuot is central to our existence. In celebrating the receiving of Torah at Mt. Sinai, we are really celebrating our ongoing Jewish journey — the generations that have preceded us and the generations to come. It is all about our thirst to know more and to use our Torah as a means to create a better world.
Let us all take this opportunity to celebrate and lift up the seeking of greater knowledge and greater understanding of our human condition. We celebrate not only our ongoing role in studying our Written Torah, our Five Books of Moses, but also our opportunity to add to it as we seek out greater understanding.
To all, I wish a Chag Shavuot Sameach, a Happy Shavuot full of learning.
