Starting with the good and most important news. With Tilly’s Bat Mizvah this coming Saturday, we celebrate welcoming her into our Kol Ami adult Jewish community. (No, this does not mean she is free of parental guidance, getting her own apartment or the keys to the car.) Becoming B’nai Mitzvah-a child of the commandments-means that we welcome another important voice into our Kol Ami family, and her perspective on a myriad of issues will strengthen our community. It is important that our Kol Ami family be present to welcome Tilly in an official way into our community.
The number of individual/congregant meetings continue at a significantly increased rate since January...Read more.
This Week's Torah Portion Parashat Pekudei (Shemot/Exodus 38:21-40:18)
This week, with Pekudei, we complete our reading of the Book of Shemot/Exodus, learning the many materials and effort that went into the building of the Mishkah-the Holy Tabernacle, and through those many gifts allowed everyone to have contributed to its creation.

Feature: Sweet Sesame Matzah Bars Reprinted with Permission from butter, sugar, flowers. . Fragrant with nutty sesame flavor, these sweet, crisp bars offer the moist richness of almond paste and the tart tang of fresh orange peel.
1.5 cups sesame seeds About 8 cups plain matzah crackers roughly broken into 1.5 inch pieces 14 ounces almond paste, OR 7 ounces almond paste plus 2/3 cup creamy peanut butter 2 medium oranges ¾ cup unsalted butter or coconut oil 1 teaspoon salt ¾ cup honey 2 teaspoons pure vanilla extract Preheat oven to 350 F. Place sesame seeds in a 9 x 13” cake pan and bake for 20 minutes, stopping halfway through to stir and turn seeds. Remove from oven and let seeds cool in pan. Grate almond paste with a standard sized grater; set aside. Zest oranges with a fine grater; set zest aside. Juice oranges over a sieve until you have 1/3 cup strained juice (one orange may be enough). When sesame seed pan is cool enough to handle, pour the toasted seeds into a bowl with the broken matzah. Line the bottom and sides of the pan with foil; grease the foil, set pan aside nearby, then grease a wooden spoon for easy mixing. Measure out the peanut butter (if using), honey and vanilla so they are ready to quickly add to the pot. Learn more .
