Rabbi's Week in Review
While waiting for a program to start, in which I was giving a D’var Torah, I had a conversation with someone whom I had the honor/pleasure of working with years ago in the Jewish community, someone I still admire. The conversation was centered on fighting antisemitism, and what the best approach is to successfully carry on that fight.
This Week's Torah Portion Parashat Vayeshev (Bereishit/Genesis 37:1-40:23)
We read the story of Judah and Tamar — Judah not fulfilling a promise made to his daughter-in-law Tamar but ultimately admitting his wrongdoing. When we have wronged someone, it is easy to be paralyzed into not acting, avoiding and fearing the response from admitting our wrongdoing. Yet the fear is almost always unfounded, and releasing the burden of guilt is always preferable, even if we do not get the response for which we hoped.
